PostSubject: Senate Panel OKs Abortion Coverage in Health Care Bill   Senate Panel OKs Abortion Coverage in Health Care Bill I_icon_minitimeTue Jul 14, 2009 1:16 pm

Quote :
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- During a Senate committee meeting on Friday, a leading pro-abortion senator was forced to admit that one of the health care bills pending in the Senate will include abortion coverage. After the admission, the Senate panel voted to include abortions in that version of a national health care plan.

Three pro-life senators used Thursday's Senate HELP Committee meeting to force the leadership's hand on its agenda of including abortion in a public health care plan.

Sen. Barbara Mikulski, a Maryland Democrat, stammered her way through an explanation of an amendment to the health care bill that would cover abortion.

This makes me sick.

I have a better idea, since universal healthcare is coming in one form or another, why don't we spend a little more for maternity wards and beef up the adoption process. There are tens of thousands of sterile couples who would give anything for those babies who will face such a terrible fate. I would have no problem with my taxes being raised for such a cause.

Wow, this republican just earned my respect...

It's rare to see a senator apologize for the actions of people on their own side. But we saw Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., a strong anti-abortion advocate do just that this morning.

An obstetrician and a conservative, Coburn grilled Sonia Sotomayor on abortion law. But before he got into that, he first issued an apology to her and rebuked the anti-abortion protesters that interrupted the first two days of the confirmation hearing.

"I apologize to you for the outburst that occurred in this committee. Anybody who values life like I do and is pro-life recognizes that the way you change minds is not yell at people, is you love them," Coburn said. "And you care about their concerns and you create a level of understanding, not condemnation. And so, for that, I apologize."

Five anti-abortion protesters interrupted the hearing shouting slogans in the first two days.

Yeah, that would be nice but then we would have crazy people like Octomom having ten babies on our dime. Not something I want to be paying for...

I'm curious how many abortions are covered under regular insurance and how many are paid for by tax payers already through other programs. Does anyone know?

I would rather pay for a few nuts' kids than for several thousands of abortions. Besides, universal health insurance is already coming so it is not like we wouldn't be paying for the Octomoms regardless.

thumb That is your choice and I can see why you feel that way Laughing , I am talking more about the likes of Kennedy. Byrd, Boxer, Feinstein and the entire host of others that are imo "Obama socialist" sympathizers. I am not huge fan of ol' Mitch myself but I do agree with him on more things than the liberal/socialist party (formnerly known as the demopcratic party)congess and/or senate members.
I am going to be checking on ALL voting records .....GOP or Dem and any of this crap being done today and the ones that voted for it ...I will vote against .
Untill the last two elections I don't think I have ever voted a straight ticket on anything.....that changed when the Dems were imo no longer "the party of the people" and I couldn't find one decent "donkey Grin " in office or running for one.

I am just thank God to live in a country where we can vote for who we want and that everyone has the right to do so and speak their opinions. I just sometimes wonder how long it will remain "the land of the free" with this currrent adinistration.
I pray for our country and our President and always have, no matter who is in office. thumb

I just wish more Americans would education themselves about the candidates before voting. It was scary during public surveys how many Americans could not answer what McCain's or Obama's positions were are some VERY basic topics, things you could learn just watching the news a few times a week. An ignorant voter base takes away some of the effectiveness of democracy.

Yes, he and Jim Bunning. The older Jim gets, the more he seems to be losing it. Mitch, well, his time is way overdue. He's the most close-minded person on Earth. We almost ditched Mitch, hopefully we will next time around. People are starting to see the light when it comes to him.

Bunning is a goner. If he goes through with the election, he will easily lose.

Mitch's election was closer than usual simply due to the to popularity Obama brought to the Dem ticket and the negativity Bush brought to the GOP ticket. I read there was a huge increase in the number of people voting straight Democrat on the ballot compared to elections previously. This seems really similar to how the GOP did well during Reagan's reelection. With Obama's popularity fading (atleast according to polls), in 2010, things won't be so tough for the GOP and the two parties will probably be on a much more level playing field. This won't be enough to save Bunning though. The KY GOP just has to pray Bunning steps aside and allows Trey Grayson to take the nomination.

We're not TOO overly worried about thread jacking. In a normal political discussion, one point leads to another then to another. We do TRY to go back to the original topic occassionally. Very Happy

I'm torn on this, which isn't suprising since I am torn on the abortion issue. IF the abortion is occurring as a result of threats to the mother's life, then I obviously think that it should be covered. Elective abortion should NOT.
