Even SUPPORTERS of Obama's economic policies said the long-term outlook places the federal government on an unsustainable path that will force the president and Congress to consider politically unpopular measures, including tax increases and cuts in government programs.

Don't really matter now.... Obama holds the record and just think people thought it could not get any worse than Bush... Make that FIVE times worse than Bush...

At least the Obama administration has some transparency. Nobody even knows where the trillions of dollars Bush spent went. More than likely in his own pocket and the pockets of his cronies who own the corporations who profited off of two wars, one based on a complete lie.
And Lucas is wrong. The spending that has taken place since Bush left office is in response to what Bush did to this country. So, Bush is actually to blame for all of it. President Obama wouldn't even be in office if people hadn't seen how horrible a president the republicans produced. And there wouldn't be any need of a second stimulus plan if Bush hadn't tanked the country, so thank Bush for the debt. If there was no Bush, there wouldn't have been TARP.

To make up for the Bush spending Obama only needed to match it... Not spend FIVE times that amount....

Proof???

The truth is that Bush wasted TONS more than Obama has ever spent. There is a big difference between spending and wasting. And spending to save the economy is different from spending to invade Iraq. I could go on, but I have a feeling it isn't worth it.

Barack Obama has introduced his first budget as President for the 2010 fiscal year. While telling the American people that he plans to cut the deficit in half by the end of his term, Obama's budget projections call for 1.75 trillion in 2009, more than the last FIVE Bush deficits combined, and trillion dollar deficits through budget year 2012 which is the last year of his term. So much for telling the truth.

Obama is spending about 4 billion per WEEK... Far surpassing what Bush spent on both wars...
Throughout the summer, the administration had averaged about $4 billion in new spending obligations per week, but went on a two-week $25 billion spree just in time to meet the president's $225 billion goal for the first 200 days. Spending plummeted to less than $4 billion in the week of Sept. 5 through Sept. 11.

"As a longtime government-spending watchdog, our experience says that when you expend such large sums so thoughtlessly, you can all but guarantee that significant portions of this money will be lost and never accounted for," said Leslie Paige, media director at Citizens Against Government Waste. "It is an unconscionable, damaging way to manhandle the taxpayers' dollars. We wish stimulus Inspector General Earl Devaney good luck and Godspeed in trying to track this money."

Actually, it's not. And you are using the heritage foundation as a source? Not only is it a republican foundation, it's full of wackys. One of their leading figures was Roger Pearson, a racist/nazi sympathizer.
Quote :
"In 1977, he joined the editorial board of Policy Review, the monthly Heritage Foundation publication in 1977. The Coors Connection notes in a caption under an illustration of Pearson's Eugenics And Race: "Dr. Roger Pearson's racialist theories are circulated worldwide by neo-Nazi and white supremacist organizations."

Wikipedia for Roger Pearson

In more recent times they have continued hiring people of questionable character. Ted E. Schelenski, who attacked a ballerina, who was half his size, riding her bicycle (road rage). He was arrested for the incident but refused to take full responsibility for the attack.Link to Road Rage incident

Since you have condemned ACORN for far less, I would say this organization isn't credible proof. They try to pass right wing policies for heavens sake. Of course they are going to demonize anything our president does. Sounds like they have their own demons to deal with. mischief

You can dis-credit the source if you want but the numbers are correct. The budget is a matter of PUBLIC RECORD... You have no proof to dispute that fact....

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama's budget would produce $9.3 trillion in deficits over the next decade, more than four times the deficits of Republican George W. Bush's presidency, congressional auditors said Friday.

The new Congressional Budget Office (CBO) figures offered a far more dire outlook for Obama's budget than the new administration predicted just last month, a deficit $2.3 trillion worse. It's a prospect even the president's own budget director called unsustainable.

In his White House run, Obama assailed the economic policies of his predecessor, but the eye-popping deficit numbers threaten to swamp his ambitious agenda of overhauling health care, exploring new energy sources and enacting scores of domestic programs.

The dismal deficit figures, if they prove to be accurate, inevitably raise the prospect that Obama and his Democratic allies controlling Congress would have to consider raising taxes after the recession ends or else pare back his agenda.

By CBO's calculation, Obama's budget would generate deficits averaging almost $1 trillion a year of red ink over 2010-2019.

Worst of all, CBO says the deficit under Obama's policies would never go below 4 percent of the size of the economy, figures that economists agree are unsustainable. By the end of the decade, the deficit would exceed 5 percent of gross domestic product, a dangerously high level.

White House budget chief Peter Orszag said that CBO's long-range economic projections are more pessimistic than those of the White House, private economists and the Federal Reserve and that he remained confident that Obama's budget, if enacted, would produce smaller deficits.

Even so, Orszag acknowledged that if the CBO projections prove accurate, Obama's budget would produce deficits that could not be sustained.

"Deficits in the, let's say, 5 percent of GDP range would lead to rising debt-to-GDP ratios that would ultimately not be sustainable," Orszag told reporters.

Deficits so big put upward pressure on interest rates as the government offers more attractive interest rates to attract borrowers.

"I think deficits of 5 percent (of GDP) are unsupportable," said economist Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Economy.com. "It will lead to higher interest rates to the point where it will force policymakers to make changes."
