- Were they acorn cookies, or ACORN cookies?
US House Rep. Steve King (R-IA) says it was the latter. The congressman known for being one of the most fierce opponents of the community organization ACORN was evidently shocked when he was served acorn-shaped chocolate cookies at the White House Christmas Ball Monday night.
"At the WH Christmas Ball Monday night, they served ACORN cookies," King announced on Twitter, in reference to the community organizing group with that acronym.
It's hard to say why the White House would have chosen cookies in that shape, given the recent connotations of the word "acorn" in political circles. Perhaps it was unintentional, or perhaps it was a bit of a jab at the Republicans in attendance.
But for Rep. King, the message was clear. "I didn't expect to see such stark symbolism," he wrote in an email to Fox News.

But for Rep. King, the message was clear. "I didn't expect to see such stark symbolism," he wrote in an email to Fox News. Story continues below...
ACORN's activities have been an obsession of King's since well before this fall's controversy, when conservative activists posing as a pimp and prostitute captured on video ACORN employees advising them on how to hide evidence of a prostitution business and smuggle people into the country.
In May, King called for congressional hearings into ACORN's finances, and in September he described President Barack Obama as the "chief organizer" of ACORN.
Noting King's desire to link Obama to the controversy over ACORN, the ChattahBox blog opines that the White House acorn cookies may well be the smoking gun the House representative has been looking for.
"King may have found the link he has been seeking between Obama and ACORN," the blog quipped. Somebody needs to lock this "nut" up. hahahahahaha

| With Obama's approval ratings where they are, why in the world would he continue to want to be publicly associated with an organization that has such a reputation for corruption? If his ratings were still where they were when he was elected he would be fine and would be able to give some credibility to Acorn but that is not the case now. With congressional elections less than a year away, Obama wants to position himself as a campaign asset to democrats, not a liability. This move does not make much sense. | |

I didn't realize that Obama is publicly associating himself with the group? Besides, it's a non-issue that continues to be blabbed about by the right when there are other HUGE issues that they obviously don't have the time to talk about. Sounds like they need to get their priorities straight. For some moron to have a fit about a cookie shows just how out of touch the republican parties leadership is.

I would say these cookies in the shape of acorn is an obvious representation of the group Acorn and thus associating himself with this group which is was a dumb move. Why in the world would he want to remind the public of a group he has/had ties to who approval ratings with the public are even lower than his own?

Yes and and since the group ACORN isn't guilty of anything...who cares?

If I had skeletons in my closet like Acorn I wouldn't even joke about it. I would want the public to forget about them as best I could.

Col Oliver North was found not guilty also but do you really think he was guilty of nothing?? People and organizations with power connections seem to find ways of making legitimate charges not stick to them. The same with Steve Henry. Man is guilty as can be but amazingly nothing will come of this.

| The fact remains that this silly diversion by the repubs didn't work. Health Care Reform is well on it's way. As far as ACORN goes, the people who did wrong got in trouble. The group ACORN is not guilty. Now that reform is on it's way, I have a feeling that the ACORN problem will no longer be important. It was just a group of people making a mountain out of a molehill. You want to talk about real guilt and extreme waste of the taxpayers dollars, why don't you complain about black water and halliburton? Hmmm Merry Christmas! | |

You wonder why? It's a pretty easy answer. Halliburton/KBR are so deeply entrenched in every aspect of our two wars that President Obama would basically have to totally start the war process over to get them completely out. Bush/Cheney saw to it that they got every contract that came their way. The wars are basically sponsored by Halliburton. How would you suggest President Obama make the change over without costing the American people billions upon billions of dollars in the process? It's not like he can snap his fingers and change all the screw ups from Bush/Cheney. They saw to it that our all volunteer occupation of these countries had to remain appealing and profitable so they did all they could to make sure that removing them would be impossible. In Iraq right now there is one KBR employee for every three soldiers. It would be like pulling out our military and our "privatized" military at the same time. Impossible. Corporate America has it's claws in way too deep. The answer is to keep this from happening again.

| Why don't you start a company and try to compete with Halliburton???? Obama is at least smart enough to know that few, if any corporations can accomplish what Halliburton does... The government has been doing business with KBR long before Bush.. Again, an original thought would be nice..... Some of your liberal talking points makes you look unaware of reality.... | |

I believe that's one of the biggest problem. Corporations have taken over this country and have monopolized almost everything. I find the rest rather amusing considering the source. An original thought would be nice..... Some of your ultra conservative talking points makes you look unaware of reality.... Sorry Annie.

Annie, I respect what you guys are doing here but when I'm being attacked every time I post, it gets tiring. There is no reasoning with people like this and I'm over it. I might as well bash my brains out on a brick wall. Lucas would disagree with me about the color of the sky just to be a butthole so I'm over it. I went away for a while. I saw there were not posts during that time. (Well, a couple I guess). The only time anything gets stirred up is when I arrive. I'm tired of being the liberal punching bag to a close-minded fake person. He needs to go back to worshipping Glenn Beck and believing every stale talking point that comes out of that psychos mouth because Lord knows that anything that comes from their media is the gospel truth. Believe it or not, I haven't been happy with Obama's performance lately mainly because I believe he has let pushy know it all creeps from the right push him around too much. He's not liberal enough for me. He's still light years better than anything the republicans have offered up lately (well, they really haven't offered anything have they?). Anyway, whatever. If I wanted to listen to this sort of garbage I'd turn of Fox News and put on my tinfoil hat. I like most of you and think you are cool. It's just too bad that certain people are so angry that they LOST they can't have a decent conversation with another American. Keep on dividing this country and see where we are in ten years. It's just plain stupid and unpatriotic. Got to go to bed. I've had a great birthday and I'm not going to let some jerk ruin it for me. Take care all! Going to go snuggle with my hubby. I love being around men with common sense!

| I guess that the site will revert back to a singular track of thinking. Not that we've had much discussion, really. There's always too much beating up on the other side, instead of considering things from a different standpoint.
Close-minded political beliefs that are based only on the side of the aisle are the most dangerous. I don't know if we can ever get over it.
