Which one of these statements rolled of BHO's tongue the easiest?

1. "We are not a Christian nation".

2. "We could be one of the largest Muslim nations".

Maybe, but the POTUS should be VERY careful when handling such words, right? It's not hard to take his words out of context, we haven't heard such things from a president before.

We may have not heard those exact words before but we've sure heard some stupid ones.

What exactly was the context?

Some interesting quotes from some of our founding fathers:

John Adams and John Hancock:
We Recognize No Sovereign but God, and no King but Jesus! [April 18, 1775]

Alexander Hamilton:
Hamilton began work with the Rev. James Bayard to form the Christian Constitutional Society to help spread over the world the two things which Hamilton said made America great:
(1) Christianity
(2) a Constitution formed under Christianity.
“The Christian Constitutional Society, its object is first: The support of the Christian religion. Second: The support of the United States.”

George Washington; 1st U.S. President
"While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian."

I have always believed that we were founded on Judeo Christian ideals.

This is how it was taken out of context...

He said
Quote :
we are no longer "just" a Christian nation, but a nation of many other faiths as well.

He was simply stating a fact. We have always been a melting pot of many faiths and now more than ever.

Link to factcheck.org about this subject

I wish that fellow Christians wouldn't take everything he says as some kind of attack on their faith. He is a Christian as well (some seem to forget).

And here's why the second quote was taken out of context.....

Quote :
With President Obama set to depart for the Mideast, many will likely jump on him today for allegedly calling America a Muslim country on French television late yesterday.

Indeed, critics are already grabbing on to the comment as it was reported in the New York Times write-up:

In an interview with Laura Haim on Canal Plus, a French television station, Mr. Obama noted that the United States also could be considered as “one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.” He sought to downplay the expectations of the speech, but he said he hoped the address would raise awareness about Muslims.

The Times piece is already spreading rapidly on the right. PowerLineBlog, for instance, asked: “In what possible sense can any rational person consider the United States to be a Muslim country?” But here’s what Obama actually said:

Now, the flip side is I think that the United States and the West generally, we have to educate ourselves more effectively on Islam. And one of the points I want to make is, is that if you actually took the number of Muslims Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world. And so there’s got to be a better dialogue and a better understanding between the two peoples.

Hard-core rhetoricians will note that Obama was employing an obscure tense known as the “conditional,” and an arcane rhetorical device known as a “hypothetical.” He said that if you were to take the number of Muslims in America, then one could see America as ranking up there with other Muslim countries — in numerical, hypothetical terms.

Sure, let’s fact-check the claim about the number of Muslims and analyze the policy implications. But come on, the man simply didn’t say America is a Muslim country. It’s going to be a long week.

Thanks, gringa. I have no problem with what he said. I do wish he would have added that the Middle East needs to educate themselves as well on Christianity.

I'm pretty sure that the middle east knows all they want to know on Christianity since the middle east was the birthplace of the religion. Actually, they probably have a better understanding of it's true form than we do. It's pretty easy to see why they believe that we are scum. We are hypocrites to them. Many say we are a Christian nation but one of our biggest exports is pornography and other things that are considered completely perverse by their culture. Their principles are even more straight laced than the American version of Christianity. Have you ever turned on the tv and thought to yourself.... no wonder they want to blow us up? I have.

Plenty of Muslim hypocrites also.. Real easy for me to think of them as scum too.. Usually they only see our worst and us of them.. I've got several Muslim friends and they are just as embarrassed with their religious nuts as we are with ours...

I agree. Seldom is it just one way with these examples.
